Team Teenagers | Day of Dance 2023

created & choreographed by Alexis Elyzia Henry, Rai Crabtree & Rianna Corben.

A rebellion against the typical teenage life, Team Teenagers produced an intricate mashup of the idealistic high school experience we all dreamed of paralleled with the harsh reality of our teen years. We invited the audience to come and live out their teenage dream, of high school just like the films promised it would be, as part of AUB Dance’s Day of Dance, an event where us dance students animate campus with joyous performances, curated for everyone to participate in; spreading joy on campus whilst sharing our art form with the wider community.

Performed in March 2023 on the Arts University Bournemouth campus.

For the duration of second term in second year, i worked in collaboration with Rai & Rianna to create Team Teenagers as part of our day of dance event. We put so much work into this incredible project; personally i worked as part of our team as a choreographer, director, & sound editor and we worked collaboratively with costume students to create the aesthetic we wanted for the performance. As part of the wider event, i worked within marketing, with my role specifically targeting any writing & copy, most especially the website and emails. It was a big learning journey being a part of this project. I acquired so many skills of what it takes to be on the inside of the creation of such a big event and all the little small details that have to come together to create a cohesive performance & smooth run of the day. We collaborated with the first years as our performers and third years as our stewards. It was really eye opening learning what it takes to manage the production of a work like this; the journey involved a lot of hard work and preparation but the final product was SO FUN to perform! It was so cool to play such a wacky character, & bring out a more quirky commercial performance style, compared to our usual contemporary choreography.
