In a black and white image, Alexis, a female dancer, performs on stage wearing a t-shirt and loose white trousers. She stands with her head titled back, one hand near her face and the other just past her chest. Stage lights cast dramatic shadows.

About Me!

Alexis Elyzia Henry

Based in the South West of the UK, I am a passionate contemporary dance artist, weaving genuine love, care and dedication into all that i do. I recently graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) Dance Degree from Arts University Bournemouth, but I have been dancing since I was three years old, studying ballet tap and modern at Langley School of Dance, and ever since then, I have always known that this was what I was going to pursue.

This site is a collation of all of my creative endeavors, as well as an insight into what life is like as a dancer…

In a photoshoot setting, with a grey background, a dancer is bending down towards her ballet shoe, lifting the edge of her skirt. She has on a deep red gown that is corseted and layered. Her hair is swept into a bun, with a dainty silver headband.

The Dancer Diaries

The Dancer Diaries ⋆

I have created my own curated corner of the dance community, carving out a space to share all my thoughts and feelings based on my personal experiences, research, and all i have learnt from my time within the world of dance. Here i’ll be sharing and documenting what i find life as a dancer to be like with honesty, vulnerability and care.

This inside look at this artform i love and the world i sit within will create more of an insight into who i am as a dancer, helping you to understand more of what goes into all of my passions and projects. This is a chance for me to unpack all the feelings that encapsulate what makes me the dancer i am - the pressure, the passion, the burn out, the beauty, the comparison, the joy, the friendships, the self-doubt, and above all that the deep rooted love for dance that pulls everything together.

If you’re interested in knowing more about me or the dance world as a whole, this is the place to be. It’s a peak backstage into all the dressing rooms, studios, stages and places that dance has ever taken me…

In a black and white image, a dancer stands facing the back of the stage in first position, reading upwards with rounded arms, looking up towards them. She is dressed all in white and her hair flows down her back.
My Blog Space
  • On a stage backlit by blue lights, and a warm front light, a dancer in all black, hair plaited, is mid motion, circling their right elbow and shoulder, leaning off to that side, with the opposing leg extended out with the feet pointed
  • A camera man with a mobile rig stands close to the left side of the image filming the dancer lit by an orange glow. The dancer 's right arm is palm up near her face pulling downwards which will have a knock on effect to move her body backwards.
  • Three dancers are walking forwards in a shadowy stage. They are wearing grey and white clothes and their hair flows with the motion of them moving. The central girl is holding a birthday cake with a rainbow sprinkle coating and a big lit candle.
  • In a studio space, two dancers are facing eachother on a diagonal spacing. They're arching their upper back outwards and opening up their arms.
  • Lit in red, two dancers are in motion on stage. One facing forward, is curved forward, with their knee up, pushing it down away from them. The other faces her, arms upwards reaching outwards above their heads, just beginning to outstretch her leg.
  • On a very shadowy stage, two dancers sit in fourth, one holding the others arm, both looking tentatively at this touch.
  • In black and white, one dancer is sat on the floor in a white dress and knitted vest, looking over at a duet of dancers. In the duet, one dancer arches back whilst the other lunges and holds and assists the other's head and back.
  • Four dancers lay in a cluster on the floor lit by purple lights. They're layered upon one another in grey and white dresses and skirts.
