...Love Still Is.

"Grief is the most honest reflection of love."

In connection to my final project titled Things Left Unsaid, this dance film depicts the duality of grief. In dedication to my childhood best friend, Isabel, ...Love Still Is explores the interconnection of loss and love, unpacking the love that remains when the person is gone and learning how to carry that with you.

This was a very important project for me, as it felt like the perfect vessel for my love for Isabel, having danced together since we were three. I am so grateful to my wonderful collaborators, Ollie, Talitha and Rai for helping to bring to life such a meaningful piece of work for me - working with you made it even more special.

for Isabel. ♡

as part of my final project, i created a film titled ‘…Love Still Is’ which formed an integral part of my body of work ‘Things Left Unsaid.’ this was such a special project for me, and this process was one of my favourites i’ve ever embarked on. i wanted to address the themes of loss, grief, and love in my final major project as i feel as though they have been tied into my dancing for a long time. in 2016, i lost my childhood bestfriend who i had danced with since i was three years old. i have encountered other experiences with grief, however, i feel this is the most impactful on me for a multitude of reasons, but the one notable to the project is that our connection was formed due to dance and i dance every day of my life. the theme of ‘things left unsaid’ is key in this personal part of my life as we were so young, there are so many things i wish i could now express to her. i created this project for her & for those who, like me, feel there is so much more love you wish you could have expressed. it is a vessel for that love; for those things left unsaid. this whole project is dedicated to Isabel, but most specifically, this film portion is like my personal love letter to her.

i will always hold this creative process close to my heart. getting to collaborate with people who mean so much to me on a project about losing someone who means so much to me was truly such a blessing. it was important to me to work with people on this who i knew would carry the weight of it with care. as this film was such a personal piece for me, it was important i worked with people i could trust. & not only did they work super hard, giving their all to something i was giving my all to, they also made the rehearsals and the shoot such a joy. this could’ve been a really heavy process for me, but even unpacking such raw thoughts & feelings through movement, it was actually really joyous to feel so safe to create such a vulnerable piece of work & we laughed our way through the entirety of this process. it was important to me to work with talitha in some way for this project as we were a little dance sisters trio with Isabel when we were younger & i wanted to honour that in some way. she was the perfect choice to voice the film & i couldn’t picture ‘…Love Still Is.’ being created any other way. as for ollie & rai, it was also such a full circle moment to work with two friends that i have had by my side since the very first few weeks of university all the way up until now. it was so surreal knowing i was working on my final ever project at university, but im so glad we got to do it together. it felt like a very beautiful moment to commemorate our time together in a creative outlet such as this. forever grateful for the chance to collaborate with them both, and the chance to create something so special for someone so special. ♡
