Fault Lines | Community Castby: Lila Dance.
R&D Workshop & Performance.
As our planet’s voice gets louder, are we ready to listen?’
In November 2023, i took part in a workshop with Lila Dance, in which we explored, designed and developed the community cast section for their touring show Fault Lines, & then in June of 2024, i had the opportunity to be a part of their community cast for the Bournemouth performance of this incredible work.
‘Fault Lines pulls at the tension in our relationship with nature. Our constant pursuit of progress increasing the speed of life has left us out of sync with the natural world.‘
In November of 2023, i took part in a Research and Development workshop run by Carrie Whitaker & Abi Mortimer, artistic directors of Lila Dance, in partnership with Pavilion Dance South West, in which we explored, designed and developed the community cast section for their touring show Fault Lines. It was such an incredible experience & i had a lovely time working with a range of dancers, including the lovely Rai & Hannah, featured in this snippet of our own choreography inspired by a segment of contact work rep we learnt, who of course i already know & adore dancing with. It was so interesting hearing everyone’s experiences with dance and opinions & stories regarding what we can do to make a difference within climate change. The choreography we learnt and developed was gorgeous and our conversations surrounding the subject matter were really meaningful and poignant. I have worked with Lila & Carrie before in my second year placement during my degree so it was super lovely getting to work with her again. 🫂

In June of 2024, i had the opportunity to be a part of Lila Dance‘s community cast for their incredible work Fault Lines. I had the best time learning & performing this work; Watching the piece, it is the kind of work that reaches right out to you & touches you. Dancing in it, i felt so connected to those around me. It was honestly such an honour to get to know & work with the rest of the community cast, who are such a beautiful talented group of people. It was an amazing experience learning from such a range of people, hearing their stories & dancing together. With such a diverse group of people, it was so wonderful getting to connect with them all & i feel like i learnt so much just by simply being around them in this process. It was such a joy to experience our bond strengthen over the three days we were together.
After working with Lila back in November to help develop the community cast section in an R&D day, it was really inspiring to see how the work has developed. I feel super lucky to have had the chance to be a part of this project & it was so inspiring to see their incredible cast in action as i admire their work so much, i truly felt like i was learning from the best! It was such an honour to be even a small part of such a powerful, evocative work.
Thank you to Amy Morvell for leading our workshop days with such warmth & encouragement & thank you Lila for this incredible opportunity. <3
they are still touring the work now as i write this, so if they’re still touring whist you’re reading this i honestly urge you if you can to get out & go see this work!
